Since the beginning of the Fall semester, many aspect of life have changes. I finally feel as though I have laid a concrete foundation in my college career. Mainly the connection between my mentor and I has grown. I feel as though eh is a reliable source to call in time of need. He even helped me apply for a job at a local restaurant. As far as the skills he is teaching me in business communication, I feel as though he emphasis the idea of staying up to date with all of his mentee. He displays the the clairvoyance as a mentor should. I feel as though this is the main skill he is teaching me. The second skill my mentor is endowing me with is the ability to keep phone conversations that are business related, strictly business. The characteristics in which my mentor talks on the phone is very clear, concise, and to the point. Whether Mr. Ralph is discussing business briefs over the phone or trying to keep in touch with an associate, his phone conversation remain business like. Moreover, this seems to work in his favor. Phone conversations become less extensive, less persoanl, and more to the point. I will remember this skill when talking on the phone with future employers or with future business associates.
As far as a carrer goes, I believe I am set for my future. In my current accounting class, Professor Maine has sent out many e-mails involving different oppurtunities that accounting has to offer. From careers in the SEC to owning my own accounting firm, I have a wide range of of oppurtunities at my desposal. In specific, I would like to be involved in the process of merges and aquisitions. After I receieve my undergraduate degress in accounting and pass my CPA exam, i plan on attending law school. After which, I plan on working my way up the economic chain to eventually be involved in the process of mergers and aquisitions.
As a New Orleans Native, I have been to many Mardi Gras's. I have almost experienced everything that Mardi Gras has to offer. From sleeping on a couch in a U-hual van on St.Charles Street to be being thrown up on by a drunken friend, I have experienced many activities during the Mardi Gras holiday. As far as this Mardi Gras, I would to experience outsider reactions ot the activities that Mardi Gras has to offer. I find it very interesting that those who have never experienced Mardi Gras act differently from the locals. However, the one thing i would not like to experience during Mardi Gras is being a mediator in a fight. In many years pass, I have often been the voice of reason had fights tend to arise during Mardi Gras. From threats with a beer bottle to full-blown death threats, I have always had to calm someone down before the are tackled and driven away in handcuffs. This Mardi Gras i hope everyone enjoys the true spirit of being in New Orleans. Moreover, Mardi Gras is important to New Orleans because it represents the essence of New Orleans. From the floats dictating the current crisis in the city to the people wanting to relax and have a good time, Mardi Gras describes what New Orleans is really about. Mardi Gras is New Orleans....

CareerBeam Values and Vision

As a person, my ideal future is best implemented in my mission statement. "To be the best person I can be in all aspects of my life. To pursue all tangible task and aspects of life. To find a balance between social, political, and economic ideal that engulf my world. To remain a man of integrity through times of hardship. To maintain a sense of self through times of negative influence and procrastination. To be a leader in a time of nothing but followers. And above all, to learn competence, conscience, compassion when being a man for others (Jesuit High School Mission Statement)." As far as my future life goals, my vision is to simply be the best I can be in whatever endeavour I decide to pursue. Whether I stay at accounting or decide to change to a visual arts major, I decide to dedicate to any task I plan to accomplish. The future hold unknown aspect of life that might change my personality. I hope I take that change with a willingness to learn. However, there are multiple benefits to writing a Vision Statement. The main benefit is mapping out a life plan. Those without a plan, plan to fail as my father would like to say. Other benefits are becoming a decisive person, becoming a leader, allowing for clarity in thinking, and allowing intelligable ways of thinking and analyzing life. The main challenge to writing a Vision Statement is trying to find exactly what you want to stand for in life. Those who go through life with out a clear path find it harder to write a vision statement because they do not define what they want to do. Being one of those people who traveled with the stream through high school, I found writing a mission statement very hard. However as a college student, I find myself organizing my life in a more grown-up fashion. Therefore, I find it much easier to write a Vision Statement as I become of age and become more mature. With age come responsibility. The value that is most important to me is being a man for others. As Professor Howard taught me, the reason for the recent company crashes is that companies are starting to use people as a mean to and end rather then just treating them as people. Therefore, I figure as long as I am a man for others, I will never fall victim to the failures and falls of man. However, putting that value in daily practice seems to be somewhat of a difficulty for me. I try to help out others as much as possible. However, friends and family often times need help with immoral activities; or at the least, activities that I find hard to participate in. I try my best to be a man for others but at the same time not a push over. Lifted Research Group Co. exemplifies the exact meaning of a quality mission statement. Their Mission Statement goes, "L-R-G is a company designed to overthrow the masses by using our influence. Our Slogan is simple, 'underground inventive, overground effective.' At L-R-G we want to focus on the ones that are trying to pay their rent with heir passions. think of us as a support group for the independent and underground culture. We're trying to put the spotlight where we think it really belongs, because it is much more than clothing and concepts, it is a way of living. L-R-G innovative essence for the above average person. As always, thank you for supporting the ones that support you."  Working for an organization with these ideal would allow me create and harvest an environment of artistry, creation, and innovation. The healthiest environment are those that allow you to grow. Thinking outside the box is the key to knowledge.

The Executive Mentoring Program opened my eyes to alot. The program allowed me to understand the true meaning of the benefits and graduating and doing good in school. I learned that the program is very helpful for freshman. It allows freshman to connect to someone who has already been through the process and connect on a level that allows for great learning. The mentoring program also allows student to meet students they haven't met before and make future connections for any aspect of life. The Mentoring Programs allows those who are not from the New Orleans area to learn more about the city through the meeting off campus. My mentor described the hours in which is he allowed to work, and I was amazed. The ability to go in whenever you want and leave whenever you want as long as you get the job done seems like the life to me. The program also opened my eyes to the real meaning of networking. Mr. Ralph offers internships through his mentoring program which would be a major benefit for experience in the corporate world. My mentor also introduce me to my first lesson in business ethics. Watch what I put on the internet because those post might come back to haunt me one day. Plus my mentor just seems like a cool person to hang out with which I like very much. Moreover, the outcomes for the mentoring program is endless. From connections to the business and commercial world to gain an internship, the possibilities are endless. Mainly, I'm looking to become a better a person in general. From every experience I feel as though there is always something special to learn from any experience in life. Every moment is a learning experience. Sometimes we just have to search for the lesson. Muslih-uddin Sadi says, “of journeying the benefits are many: the freshness it bringeth to the heart, the seeing and hearing of marvelous things, the delight of beholding new cities, the meeting of unknown friends, and the learning of high manners.” I could not have put it any better...

BIO

I was born on April 24th in New Orleans. I grew up an a small house surrounded by an elderly neighbor hood so i had very little friends from age one through eleven. Being me, I still found a way to have fun. My elementary school was majority caucasian and during my 7th grade year i was the only African-American kid in grades 5th through 8th. I was somewhat of a trouble maker just because I felt like an outcast. I would socialize with the other kids around school but outside of school they would socialize and I just wandered away. I was suspended about seven times over my 7th and 8th grade year, but again I had fun. I graduated from Trinity right on time and moved on to bigger and better things. i went to Jesuit High School and started having real fun. I joined ROTC to gain a little bit of leadership skills for future endeavours. Then i decided to join the debate team because I was interested in argumentation and philosophy. I learned alot about Locke, Hobbes, Derrida, Nietzsche, and Augustine. I traveled the country arguing idea and notions of social justice and liberty. From debates on welfare to nuclear proliferation, they all seem to interest me. I closed out my first year of debate strong with some key first, second, and third place wins in both local and national tournaments. During my senior year however, my debate skills seem to diminish because I stepped up to league in which competition was a little to experienced for me. I finished the season alright but not as well as I wish i could have. I got a job at StienMart after the season was over to have alottments of money to feed into my sneaker collection fad. I had planned on attending Morehouse College but the stars didn't align as far as finances are involved. I moved on and decided on my second choice. Attending Loyola was a smart idea. I was allowed to stay in the city I love. I was allowed to still enjoy that New Orleans food thats so hard to let go of. I kept to old friends and gain new ones. I decided to major in accounting because an art major did not look as productive. Now, I'm looking forward to my five year plan since soon I'll be double majoring in finance. What more can I say?
